Course Description:
Limb amputation, fasciotomy, and cricothyroidotomy are rarely required in the field. However, when these
potentially life-saving procedures are necessary, it is imperative that they be done quickly and with skill.

EMS providers are uniquely trained to be able to function safely in the out of hospital setting, yet few training opportunities are available for EMS physicians. This cadaver lab program provides this opportunity. In addition, it offers a forum for experienced EMS physicians to discuss their experiences and suggest ways these procedures may be adapted for the out of hospital setting..

Objectives:
• Understand special considerations for patient and staff safety during these emergent procedures.
• Understand when emergent amputation, fasciotomy, and cricothyroidotomy are indicated.
• Describe the appropriate equipment needs for these emergency procedures
• Master the technique for emergent amputation, fasciotomy and cricothyroidotomy.

Target Audience
Emergency Physicians, EMS Fellows, EM Residents
